Mrs Marie Kelley

On the evening of December 3, 2016, Marie Dobbs Kelley peacefully passed away at The Gardens at Warwick Forrest Convalescent and Rehabilitation Hospital, Newport News, VA. Marie lived to be 91 years old. Marie was born in Troup County, GA on July 15, 1925. Marie was the last child born to Roy Dobbs and Exia Lou Johnson Dobbs. Marie resided in Lagrange, GA where she met and married the love of her life, Alonza Kelley, Sr. Marie worked in a domestic capacity while in Lagrange, GA. In the Spring of 1958 they decided to move their family of six children to Newport News, VA and took up residence in Newsome Park. Marie was a faithful member of First Baptist Jefferson Park for many years and never missed a Sunday until her illness. Marie loved her family just as she loved the Lord, always unconditionally. You could always find her cooking up something good in the kitchen to be shared with family, friends and neighbors. Marie was always up for a good bid-whist game to pass the time. Her family will miss her laugh, wisdom and prayers. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Alonza Kelley, Sr.; parents, Roy Dobbs and Exia Lou Dobbs; sisters, Mary Burton and Louise Silmon; brothers, Willie Lee Dunlap (Bo) and Lamon Jackson; daughter, Linda Jackson; two sons, Alonza Jr and Melvin Kelley and one grandson, Benton Nelson. Marie is survived by daughters, Carrie Slade, Catherine Pittman and Gloria Barksdale; one daughter-in-law, Maria Kelley; grandchildren, Kimberly Slade, Ovette Finnell, Latoya Jones, Vinson Jackson, Maeella Adams, Marvin Jackson, Charles Jackson, Wayne Nelson, Kalvin Nelson, Felicia Hunter and Melvin Williams and a host of great-grand and one great-great grand. Marie D. Kelley will be funeralized on Friday December 9, 2016 at 11:00am, First Baptist Jefferson Park, 615 42nd Street, Newport News, VA 23607. The repass will be held at 2:00pm Stratford University (Dining Room), 836 J. Clyde Morris Blvd, Newport News, VA 23601 The Family would like to give a special thanks to M. E. Fisher Funeral Home, Inc. for the kindness they have shown in our time of need. Also, to the Gardens at Warwick Forrest Convalescent and Rehabilitation Hospital, especially to the Nursing staff on the Chesapeake Unit, for taking care of our loved one and ensuring she was comfortable in her last days.
