Mr. Moses Scott Chandler, Jr.

Moses Scott Chandler, Jr. 72, entered into the heavenly gates on March 6, 2010 surrounded by his family. He was the oldest of two children born to the late Virginia Frances and Moses Scott Chandler, Sr., on October 21, 1937 in Elizabeth City County, (Hampton) Virginia. He graduated from George P. Phenix High School class of 1956. Math was his favorite subject as he loved to work numbers. After graduating he went on to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army and United States Airforce and was honorably discharged on October 29, 1967. He met and married former Sarah Elaine Jordan and to this union nine children were born. He was employed at Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company. Moses accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and savior was dedicated to reading the word of God daily. He was Baptized at Queen Street Baptist Church as a young adult. Moses was an avid fan of the Washington Redskins Football team. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Kenneth R. Chandler and his brother, Junius Chandler. Affectionately known as "My Daddy" by his children and "Lil Mo" or "Uncle Moses" loved his grandchildren. He leaves to cherish his fond memories; former wife; Sarah Elaine Chandler; three daughters; Stephanie Joyner (Rickie) of Hampton; Lynette Chandler of Newport News and Yvette Chandler of Hampton; five sons; Charles Jordan and Michael Chandler of Newport News and Marvin Chandler (Thomasina) and Kevin Chandler of Hampton and Carl Chandler of Newport News; nine grandchildren; Sherika Morman (D'Angelo), Demon Apple, Kennika and Angela Chandler, Andre'and Brandon Joyner, Rashad Johnson, Antonio Chandler, and Corey Joyner; three great-grandchildren; two nieces and three nephews; aunt; Barbara Ann Brockington of Hampton; daughter -in-law; Gladys Felisa Chandler and host of cousins and other family and friends. A homegoing service will be conducted at 12 noon on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at Wesley Grove United Church of Christ 2308 Roanoke Ave., Newport News with Rev. Kevin G. Swann, Eulogist. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be from 12 noon until 6 p.m. at M. E. Fisher Funeral Home on Friday, March 12, 2010 and two hours prior to the service. The family will assemble at 12 Sunbriar Way by 11 a.m. for the processional. Services of Celebration and Remembrance are entrusted to M. E.
