Mr. Stephen L. Douglas, Sr.

Stephen Lawrence Douglas entered peacefully into eternal rest on Saturday April 20, 2013. He was born on June 12, 1958 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his mother Bonnie Jean Douglas and younger brother Bill Douglas. Stephen attended the Minnesota Public School system and entered into his Military career in 1985. Stephen was stationed at Norfolk Naval Base in Norfolk, Virginia. Stephens’ focus while serving his country was engineering. While in the military he met the mother of his two children Stephen L. Douglas Jr. and Tiffany L. Douglas. Stephen received an honorable medical discharge in 2001. During that same year he fell in love with Melissa Simmons-Henderson and together they became a blended family and raised his two children. The newly blended family attended Cavalry Chapel of Newport News under the direction of Pastor Tony Clark. Recently they began religious instruction at Deeper Life World Outreach Ministries under the direction of Bishop Carey J. Brown Sr. Saints of this Ministry, Brother John Brown and Sister Yvonne Brown became very instrumental in keeping Stephen and Melissa covered in prayer. Stephen enjoyed sports. Although he resided in Virginia he continued to support the football team of his home the Minnesota Vikings. He shared his love of basketball with his son and as a family they would travel and enjoy watching Jr. play basketball under the training of AAU. Stephen loved to travel and he and his loving wife would travel to New York City where he enjoyed fellowshipping with his in-laws. Stephen leaves a legacy of love and memories for those who survive him; his wife Melissa Douglas, children Stephen L. Douglas Jr. and Tiffany L. Douglas, father –in-law Mack Simmons and mother –in-law Dorothy Simmons , sister-in-law Andrea Murray (Terry) niece Terraea Murray and nephew Tyler Murray. He also leaves to mourn a host of extended family, dear friends and acquaintances. Stephen was very special to all who knew and loved him and will truly be missed. Viewing will be held on Friday, April 26, 2013 from 12:00 noon until 6:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at the Chapel of the M.E. Fisher Funeral Home. Burial will follow on Monday, April 29, 2013 at the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Cemetery at 10 AM.
