Ms. Barbara Louise Tate

Barbara Louise (Barbara B) Tate, 72, entered into eternal rest on July 29, 2023, at Riverside Regional Medical Center (Riverside Hospital), after a short battle with cancer. She was born September 12, 1950, in Newport News, Virginia. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Fannie and George Huggins Jr., a beloved sister, Brenda Joyce Huggins a beloved brother George Arthur (Bubba) Huggins, III. At an early age, Barbara attended Sunday School and Church regularly. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior and became a member of First Baptist Church, corner of 23rd Street and Jefferson Avenue where she was water baptized. Barbara continued her attendance at the new location renamed First Church of Newport News (Baptist) which presently stands on the corner of 23rd and Wickham Avenue under the leadership of the late Dr. Fred J. Boddie, Jr. Barbara graduated from Huntington High School in Newport News, Virginia, class of 1968, and was a true loyal Mighty Viking. She was proud to wear that blue and white. Barbara also sang in the school chorus. This Choir even debuted on television one year. Upon graduation from high school, Barbara decided on pursuing a health care career. She enjoyed taking care of people both young and the elderly. Her journey began when seeking a challenging position as a Nurse's Aide and Medical Technician. Barbara received her Certified Nurse's Aide License. She also received her Certificate in Medication Management for Authorized Agents. She received other certificates including Pharmacology courses of Instruction as well. She was a warm and caring person who enjoyed working in the emergency room, assisted living facilities, and ICU/CCU. She was always first to step up and willing to help when needed. She touched many lives throughout her career with helping hands, a warm personality, and loyal community support. Barbara is survived by her only beautiful daughter Kimberly K. Cotton (Darryl Sr.), Fayetteville, NC. A handsome grandson Darryl R. Cotton Jr. Fayetteville, NC. A beautiful granddaughter Dominique R. Cotton, Charlotte NC. She is survived by a sister Jean Otey (Ulysses) one niece Krystle Sanon (Rueben), and one nephew, Kelvin Otey (Kristi). Two great nephews (Kelvin Jr. and Kendrick Otey). Also to cherish her memory is Aunt Effie Hardy, along with a host of cousins, special friends, co-workers, and extended family.
