Mrs. Carolyn Y. Taylor

Mrs. Carolyn Y. Taylor of 114 Culpepper Ave., Petersburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully at Petersburg Healthcare Center, Petersburg, VA on August 18, 2022. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, godmother, and friend. She was born on March 5, 1955, to the late James E. and Geraldine W. Hayes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Michael L. Hayes; grandparents, Joseph and Rosetta Lewis, Paul and Hattie Hayes; aunts, Earnestine Rhodes and Bernell; uncles, Paul and Earnest Hayes; mother-in-law, Lucille Taylor and daughter, Denise Taylor. Carolyn accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age and joined Mount Olivet Baptist Church, Petersburg, VA under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Dr. Wesley K. McLaughlin. She remained a faithful member up until her declining health. Carolyn received her education from the Petersburg Public School System graduating with the Petersburg High School Class of 1975. She was a former employee of Dunmar Moving Company and later served as a caregiver to family members to include: Kenneth, Temisha and Katrina Brown until her declining health. She was a great cook and she enjoyed talking to family, taking trips with her Gladettes Social Club members where she served as the business manager, and spoiling her grandkids. She will be truly missed by all who knew her. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 31 years, Ernest J. Taylor; daughter, Maketta Wyatt; two sons, Makeese Taylor and Erntalon Taylor; eight grandchildren, Ciara Hinton-Wyatt, Kjuan Wyatt, Ashante Taylor, Roniece Charity, Dekyia, Dekari, Emari, and Shania Taylor; one great-grandchild, Drayden Woodson; two brothers, James Hayes (Felicia) of Prince George, Virginia and Earnest Parish of Winchester, VA; nieces, Coco Cunningham and Whitney Hayes; great-nephew, RaQuan Brockingthon; aunt, Jean (Boo) Davis (Robert) and uncle, John Hayes both of New York, NY; godson, Detrell Bland; three sisters-in-law, Earlene Pegram (Robert) of Winston Salem, NC, Celia Branch (Robert) and Lucille Gilbert (James) all of Chesterfield, VA; two brothers-in-law, Charlie Taylor of Dinwiddie, VA and Robert Taylor (Juanita) of Chesterfield, VA; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends to include devoted friends: Bertha and Delano Bland, Darlene Batts, Doris Adkins, Yolanda Hampton, and Gayle Sykes. A special thank you to the Staff of Petersburg Healthcare Center. A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, August 27, 2022 at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, 800 Augusta Ave., Petersburg, VA, Dr. Wesley K. McLaughlin, pastor. Chief Apostle Mary P. Bonner, Pastor of Harvest International Full Gospel Baptist Center, Inc., Petersburg, VA officiating and Rev. Dr. Antonio A. Tucker, Sr., eulogizing. Interment will follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park, Petersburg, VA. The service will be live streamed. Public viewing will be Friday, August 26, 2022 from 12:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M.
