Mr. Edward J. Branch

Edward J. Branch, lovingly known as "Newton", 80, of 105 North Plains Drive, Petersburg, Virginia, departed this life peacefully on May 8, 2021 at his residence with family at his bedside. He was born February 6, 1941 to the late Wilbur and Margaret (Mammie) Branch. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Veronica Goodson; one sister, Annie Clanton; six brothers, John, Lee Roger, Walter, William, Douglas and Waverly Branch; three great-nephews, Warren, Kenneth and Junie; one great-niece, Linda (Baby Sis); father and mother-in-law, Arthur and Lillie Harper; one sister-in-law, Ollie Brooks and one brother-in-law, Richard Harper. Newton was a great family man that always provided for his family. He made sure that no one went without. He loved to joke around and make others happy. He enjoyed going to the race track on the weekends and spending time with friends and family. In his free time, he loved reading his Bible. He also enjoyed watching movies/tv and was a great wrestling fan. Newton was a veteran of the U.S. Army, retiring after serving 21 years of dedicated service. On Sundays, you could hear his angelic voice singing in the choir at Gravel Run Baptist Church, Dinwiddie, VA, where he was a faithful and dedicated member for years before his health started to decline. He leaves to cherish his memories with his faithful wife of over 50 years, Shirley Branch of Petersburg, VA; two devoted daughters, Bertha Jones (Larry) and Virginia Jeter both of Chesterfield, VA; two brothers, Joseph Branch of Columbus, Ohio and Albert Branch of Hackensack, New Jersey; four devoted grandchildren, Ralph Jeter (Amber), Crystal Jeter, Shavone Hall, and Alexis Jeter (Elias) all of Chesterfield, VA; three great-grandchildren who he adored very much, Jaxon, Ariel and Legacy; four compassionate nieces, Margaret Hinton (Ron), Virginia Clanton (Carl), Barbara Harper (Calvin) and Alice Rives all of Petersburg, VA; two nephews, James Harper (Deborah) of Atlanta, GA and Lloyd Green of Petersburg, VA; eight great-nieces, Kathy Hill (Troy), Rhonda Davis (Theodre), Vonda Mayer, Jennifer and Tiffany Clanton, Shakeeta Green, Jamie Harper all of Petersburg, VA, and Tamika Jordan (Brandon) of Chesapeake, VA; one great-nephew, Elijah Harper (Tia); a host of cousins to include loyal cousin, Donnelle Wilson; along with a host of other relatives and friends to include the Coleman Family, special friend, Albert Perry and the entire Gravel Run Church Family. Special thank you to the wonderful nurses to include: Jennifer, Elizabeth, and Vivienne of At Home Care that did an excellent job taking care of Mr. Branch and making his final moments peaceful. Additionally, Bon Secours - Southside Medical Center and Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center did a great job and the family is very appreciative for everything that was done for their loved one. A Celebration of Life will be held 1:00 P.M., Saturday, May 15, 2021 on the grounds of Gravel Run Baptist Church, 12512 Duncan Rd., North Dinwiddie, VA. Rev. Dr. Larry D. Brown, Sr., Pastor will officiate. Interment will follow on Monday, May 17, 2021 at Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Rd., South Prince George, VA. Public viewing will be Friday, May 14, 2021 from 10:00 A.M. - 8:00 A.M. A facial covering along with social distancing will be required while attending all services and viewings.
