Mrs. Katherine Scott Johnson

Katherine “Kat” Scott Johnson was called home on February 4, 2014 at the age of 58. Born Catherine Bonnell Scott in Eastman, GA on February 27, 1955 to the late Mildred and Gene Scott, she spent her childhood in Eastman, GA. She graduated from Dodge County High School in 1973, attending Middle Georgia College afterwards. From 1979 until 1985, Kat was a devoted member of the U.S. Army. Throughout her military years, she received various honors and awards. She was united in marriage with fellow army mate, Mr. Fletcher Edward Johnson, Jr. on March 21, 1981. They brought up two children, Gene C. Johnson and Tiffany N. Johnson. Honorably separating from the U.S. Army in 1985, she went on to serve over twenty-two years as a civil service employee/transportation specialist in Ansbach, Germany; Newport News, VA; and Hinesville/Savannah, GA, retiring in 2010. Guyton, GA was her final place of residency and from 2010-2014 she was able to enjoy retirement life, spending time with and offering love to her husband, children, grandchildren, family, and friends. A caring, kind, and simply impeccable lady, Kat was always concerned with the wellbeing of family, friends, and associates. Her laughter, sense of humor, thoughtfulness, and wisdom will forever be remembered and revered. Very rarely was Kat spotted without a beautiful smile and she frequently expressed that she would like to be remembered in this way. She was always, unselfishly, willing to offer a helping hand to those in need. Giving freely, speaking freely, and loving freely, Kat’s favorite words to family, friends, and friends of friends were, “I love you.” During family gatherings, while preparing superb meals, listening to soulful music, and reading and sharing daily scriptures were moments to find her at her best. As Katherine wore many hats (daughter, sister, wife, mother, and friend) so beautifully and gracefully, her life will continue to be celebrated in our hearts and souls. Katherine is preceded in passing by her father; Gene Scott, mother; Mildred Scott, brothers; Willie Scott, Nathan Scott, Theo Scott, O.D. Scott, Sam Scott, Thomas C. Scott, Clifford Scott, and J.C. Scott, and sisters; Lorine Floyd, Ruth James, Bernice Gipson, and Queen George. Mrs. Katherine Scott Johnson leaves to cherish her life, loving husband; Fletcher Edward Johnson Jr., one son; Gene Johnson (Tina); one daughter; Tiffany Johnson-Wiggins (Antwan), four grandchildren; Niyah Johnson, Khalil Johnson, Brehon Wiggins, and Asir Wiggins, brothers; James Scott, Lemon T. Scott, Milton Scott, Earl Scott, David Scott, and Mark Scott, sisters; Nioami Burch, Idora Johnson, Lois Wilcox, and Brenda Harrell, cousins, nephews, nieces, and a host of friends and extended family members. A memorial service/celebration of life ceremony will be held on March 22, 2014 at Faith In Action Baptist Church, 1046 College St., Eastman, GA 31023 at 1:00 p.m. A repast where family and friends are welcome to gather will immediately follow the service.
