Mrs. Marie O Rogers

Mother Marie Oreta Hudson Rogers, 83, went home to be with the lord on December 28, 2018. She was born on April 13, 1935 to Samuel Hudson, Sr. and Florence C. Hayes, in Newport News, VA. Mother Rogers grew up in Atlantic City, NJ. Mother Rogers achieved her high school diploma. She met the love of her life, William Rogers, Sr. and they married on March 30,1953. Between them they had 9 children. Mother Rogers was predeceased by her husband of 54 years. William Rogers, Sr.; a son, James Nathaniel Rogers; 2 grandchildren, and 1 great granddaughter. Mother Rogers was an active member of New Life Church Hampton, Inc. She was at the inception of ministry before it became New Life Church in 1972. She allowed God to use her in many ministries; Sunday School, Newsome Park Evangelism, NLC Daycare and School, Senior Ministry, Hospitality, NLC Choir, Greeter, Tuesday Bible Study, BSF Bible Study, Woman’s Aglow Retreat, and played the piano at Calvary Life. Mom was always busy doing the work of the Lord. What she loved the most was when she would care for other people when they could not do for themselves. That was her true calling. She was the best mother anyone could ever have. She was a homemaker and raised us in the admonition of the Lord. She was a persistent prayer warrior. She interceded for everyone she knew. Mother Rogers loved everyone she knew the same including her family. There was no “I love this person more than the other” with her. When we were younger, we used to call mom “White Lightning” because she was fast with her left hand. She was left-handed, and if you said or did something wrong and thought you were getting away with it, you would get hit by that left hand before you knew it. She was the humblest person I have ever known. When we were in chaos, she did not fret at all. Mother Rogers leaves behind to cherish her memories 4 daughters; Mary (Herley) Jones, Cynthia Hudson, Patricia Moore and Rita (Rhodney) Blow; 4 sons; Williams Rogers, Jr., Joey Rogers, Arthur (Constant) Rogers, and Carl (Ellen) Rogers. She also leaves to cherish her memories 14 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 25 great-great grandchildren; 1 sister Lois Green; 2 brothers-in-law Mitchell Rogers and Meredith Rogers. There is also a host of relatives, friends, and especially the New Life Church family who will cherish her memories as well. We all will miss you very much Mom. Sleep on and one day we will see you again.
