Mrs. Shirley Lee Higgs

Mrs Shirley L. Higgs, aged 86, peacefully entered into rest on Monday, July 8, 2024, at her residence on 22nd St. She was born to the late Rosa L. Monden and William Monden Sr. Mrs Higgs was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wilbert J. Higgs Jr, and her sons Douglas Monden (Ballie), David Lee Monden (Boo), and Wilbur C Monden (Junny); as well as siblings: Marie White, Pearl Gaskins, Mattie Bembry, William Monden Jr., and Robert Monden. Mrs Shirley was a dedicated wife and mother, known for her longstanding tenure at Hampton General Hospital and PK Hunt Crab factory. She was a faithful member of Gethsemane Baptist Church. For over 60 years, Mrs Shirley was a cornerstone of 22nd St., where she nurtured the community by feeding the hungry and selling homemade ices and juice to neighborhood children for a quarter. She also served as the sergeant of arms for her neighborhood watch, ensuring safety and order for all residents and visitors. Mrs Shirley is survived by her two sons, Kevin O Monden (Leatrice "Dale" Monden) and Steven Webster; three daughters, Diana Hedrick (McArthur), Pearl Payne, and Lois Monden; niece/daughter Victoria Bembry; 21 grandchildren, 36+ great-grandchildren, and 11+ great-great-grandchildren; along with a host of other family members and friends. Her legacy of kindness, generosity, and community spirit will be cherished by all who knew and loved her. Dear Family of Mrs. Shirley L.
