Mrs. Vina H. Johnson

Vina Marie Hawkins Johnson was called home by her heavenly father on August 23, 2024. She was the firstborn to Royal L. Hawkins, Sr. and Bessie R. Hawkins. Vina spent her childhood years in Halifax County, NC, and was educated in the Halifax County public school system where she graduated from John Armstrong High School. Vina gave her life to Christ at an early age at the Springfield Baptist Church and, in later years, became a devoted Christian and member of Gethsemane Baptist Church until her health declined. Vina received her medical credentials in the State of Virginia and served in the medical field until her health began to fail in the last several years. Vina truly loved life and enjoyed the many facets of giving back to the community. Her first love was in the medical arena; where she could provide hands-on support helping others, serving home-bound patients and others, while sharing her knowledge and abilities. More important than any of these, she loved spending time with her family, the yearly family reunions, the get-togethers, and just her private roadships to North Carolina to take care of and be with her mother. With the spirit of never leaving her family behind; when she herself was newly married and living while in Newport News, VA, she hosted most of her siblings in her home until they were working and standing on their on - a true "Big Sis". Even defending her brothers, who undoubtedly got into mischief at Springfield School, prior to preceding John Armstrong. Vina was preceded in death by her father, Royal L. Hawkins, Sr., her mother Bessie R. Hawkins, and her brothers; Willie S. Hawkins, Lendsay W. Hawkins, Robert C. Hawkins, and Joseph A. Hawkins. Early in life she met and married Alton J. Johnson, Sr., Newport News, VA and from that union, they have two (2) sons Alton J. Johnson, Jr., Greenville South Carolina, and Keith Johnson, Hampton, Va.; these children gave her three (3) grandchildren, Raymond, Briana and Aaron. She left to cherish her memory two sons, Alton J. Johnson, Jr. (Eileen), Greenville, South Carolina, and Keith Johnson (Vonda), Hampton, Va.; and three (3) grandchildren, Raymond, Briana, and Aaron. Also cherishing precious memories are her siblings; Kelly Hawkins, Sr.(Minnie) Martinsville, VA; Royal L. Hawkins, Jr. (Priscilla)Littleton, NC; Allison D. Hawkins (Janice)Littleton, NC; Julian A. Hawkins, Sr. (Louise)Enfield, NC; Tracee Boxley (Elisha) Fort Washington, MD; and sisters-in-love Janice Hawkins (widow of Joseph); Linda Hawkins (widow of Willie); and Carolyn Hawkins (widow of Lendsay). She leaves a host of nieces and nephews who adored and cherished her, as well as many loving neighbors, medical teams, and many other relatives and friends. In just the last few years, she found a very "special friendship" with her friend Mac. They shared beautiful trips to the beach as she loved the water, road trips, and a loving friendship. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous Judge will award to me on that day and not only to me but also to all who have longed for his appearing." 2 Timothy 4:7-8 The Family A private memorial service has been planned. The family requests prayer in lieu of flowers.
