Mr. William "Bill" Hatcher

Mr. William Major Hatcher was born on March 23, 1960, in Cumberland, Virginia, to the late Chessie and George Hatcher. On October 31, 2021, William gained his wings to paradise. William graduated from Cumberland High School and fulfilled his dream of attending truck driving school and obtaining his commercial driver's license. William, also known to many as "Easy B", drove tractor trailers for 32 years. He was employed at Perdue Farms, Richfood and QAT before becoming owner/operator of William Hatcher Trucking, Inc. William contracted with Landstar Inway, where he obtained numerous safety awards for his impeccable driving abilities. He received the One Million Mile Safety award before retiring from his driving career. William decided to spend more time at home and finish his career at UNFI, as a mechanic, where he was employed for the last five years. William enjoyed the outdoors. He was very particular about how his yard looked and could often be seen riding his John Deer, with his grandsons in tow. He enjoyed fishing and recently purchased a travel trailer to prepare for his upcoming retirement. William also loved riding his Gold Wing and Harley Davidson motorcycles. William was a caring and loving man, a real-life gentle giant. When he walked into a room, everyone noticed him. Maybe because he was 6 feet 5 inches tall, or because his spirit and personality captivated us all. He hugged everyone and had the ability to make strangers feel like family. William was a member of Center Union Baptist Church for many years. He later became a member of Mount Olivet Baptist Church. Along with his parents, William was preceded in death by his siblings: Yvonne Hatcher, Virginia Goode, Elsie West, Clarence Hatcher, and one brother-in-law, Stanley Goff. He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife of 33 years, Deborah A. Hatcher; two daughters, Dionna Minor and Kimberly Jordan (Brandon); a devoted family member, Laverne Stroud; two grandsons, Riley and Camden Jordan; two sisters, Lottie Goff and Irene Bailey (William); one brother, Elder George D. Smith (Veronica); one aunt, Mary James of Paterson, NJ; two God-daughters: Keisha Puryear and Jade Poole; many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives. His devoted friends; Roger "Sportcoat" Scott, Earnest "Pop" Hobson, Nathan "Nate" Lee, George "Hatman" Bullock, Cornell "Boxcar" James, Deborah Booker, Donald "Motion" Prather, Melvin "Big Red" Dabney, Lofton "Earthquake" Greenway, Teddybear, Professor, Eric "ERob" Robinson, Shawn, and a numerous list of others. A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, 800 Augusta Ave., Petersburg, VA, Rev. Dr. Wesley K. McLaughlin, Pastor. Rev. Jamison McLaughlin will officiate. Final resting place will be Dinwiddie Memorial Park, Petersburg, VA. The service will be live streamed. Public viewing will be Friday, November 5, 2021 from 12:00 P.M.- 8:00 P.M.
