Bishop Clarence Raymond Burton

October 7, 1944 - December 20, 2021

Bishop Clarence Raymond Burton, 77, of Petersburg, Virginia transitioned on December 20, 2021, in Petersburg, VA. Clarence was born in Richmond, Virginia to the late Edmund and Pearl Burton on October 7, 1944. Ray attended and graduated from St. Patrick Catholic High School in 1962. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1962, and after an honorable discharge he worked at Bellwood Defense Supply, Richmond, VA until his retirement in 2009. He later worked as a School Bus Driver for Richmond Public Schools, Richmond, VA. He also worked at Petersburg Area Transit, Petersburg, VA driving the city bus. Ray was a former employee of Tucker's Funeral Home in Petersburg, VA for many years. In June 2020, Ray reunited with the Tucker's and became a dedicated and faithful staff member of Tucker & Fisher Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Petersburg, VA and M.E. Fisher Funeral Home, Newport News, VA. He was very dependable, always on time and he stayed sharp. Mr. Burton was a true source of encouragement and was admired and appreciated by the entire staff. He was employed there until his recent retirement due to his declining health. He survived by a son, Byron A. Burton (Laura); a daughter, Kimberly Burton-Barfield; three bonus children whom he loved dearly, Latonya Wray (David), Tamika Middleton (Jamar) and Keonte Lightfoot; nine grandchildren, Brittni, Brandon, and Byron Burton, Jr., QuaVon and DeJa Lightfoot, Damitri, Keonna, and Deonte Mounday and Leah Costley; great-granddaughter, Zori Scott; two nephews, Anthony Burton (Sonya) and Raymond A. Burton; great-nephew, Anthony J. Burton, Jr.; great-niece, Asia Burton; several cousins and many friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Tucker & Fisher Celebration of Life Chapel, 415 Halifax St., Petersburg, VA on Monday, December 27, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Dr. Antonio A. Tucker, Sr., officiating. The service will be lived streamed.. Public viewing and visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, December 26, 2021, from 12:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. Final Care and Compassionate Services are being provided to the family by the professional staff of Tucker & Fisher Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 Halifax St., Petersburg, VA (804)324-5529.
