On Friday, November 5, 2021, God called home his beloved son, Charles Wesley Allen, Sr., at the age of 75. He passed peaceably at Bon Secours - Southside Medical Center in Petersburg, Virginia. Charles was born April 23, 1946 to the late Thomas Allen, Sr. and Inez Allen. Charles lived a life full of joy. He enjoyed racing his cars, playing softball, a passionate bowler, a frequent talker on his CB radio, "Better known as "396". His work ethic was like no other. For those who knew Charles, know that he loved to dress and he was well put together from head to toe, with matching hat, shoes and the outfit. Charles was raised in Disputanta, Virginia and later moved to Petersburg, Virginia. Charles was educated in the Prince George County Public School System in Prince George, Virginia. He was baptized at Mount Hope Baptist Church of Prince George, Virginia at a young age. Later, he joined Bright Lilly Disciples Church of Christ located in Newsoms, Virginia. Charles received his welding certificate from John Tyler Community College in Chester, Virginia. He was a Millwright Mechanic at Hercules (Aqualon) in Hopewell, Virginia, in which he gave 29 years of dedicated service until his health declined. Charles suffered many years with dementia, Alzheimer's, and other medical conditions. Charles struggled since the age of 49, after having a stroke on his job which required him to retire and go on permanent disability. He fought the battle to live on another 26 years. In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred L. Jones and Dorothy M. Allen; one brother, Henry E. Allen; brother-in-law, John Thomas, Jr.; niece, Jewell J. Allen and nephew, Wilbert White. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Mary Young Allen of Dinwiddie, Virginia; his two devoted sons, Charles W. Allen Jr. (Venita) of Chester, Virginia and Michael A. Allen I, (Jebba) of North Prince George, Virginia. Our beloved father leaves fond memories to his two brothers, Thomas Allen, Jr. (Doris) of South Prince George, Virginia and Wilbert Lee Allen (Mary) of Petersburg, Virginia; his five sisters, Carolina Thomas of Paterson, New Jersey, Inez Thomas of Waverly, Virginia, Eva Fields (Alexander) of Disputanta, Virginia, Valanda Reese (Herman) of Petersburg, Virginia and Shirley Allen (Joseph) of Sutherland, Virginia; one uncle, Bobbie Pettaway of Hopewell, Virginia; three wonderful grandsons, Michael L. Clarke Jr. of Chester, Virginia, Martavis T. Clarke of Varina, Virginia and Michael A. Allen, II of Prince George, Virginia; two beautiful granddaughters, Alexus V. Allen of Dallas, Texas and Ashanti Allen of Prince George, Virginia; along with numerous nieces, nephews and a host of cousins and friends too many to name. A Celebration Life will be held on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Tucker & Fisher Celebration of Life Chapel, 415 Halifax St., Petersburg, VA at 1:00 P.M. Rev. Dr. Antonio A. Tucker, Sr. will officiate. Interment will follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park, 7324 Church Rd., North Dinwiddie, VA. The service will be live streamed. Public viewing will be Wednesday, November 10, 2021 from 10:00 A.M. - 8:00 P.M. The family will be receiving friends at the residence of his son, Charles W. Allen, Jr. at 11907 Rolling Tide Court, Chester, VA and may be contacted at (804)712-9578.
