Mrs. Edith Mason Curley-Brown passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 26, 2021 in the INOVA Alexandria Hospital with her daughter and close friends by her side. Edith was the only child of the late Mack and India Bland Mason born in Prince George County, Virginia. She was the widow of Bennie Brown and the former wife of the late George M. Curley. She joined the Loving Union Baptist Church in Disputanta, Virginia at a young age and later joined Zion Baptist Church in Petersburg, Virginia. Mrs. Brown was a member of the Class of 1948 at Virginia State College, now University. She did her graduate work at the University of Virginia where she worked in the Coronary Intensive Care Unit. As a Cardiac Nurse she worked as the supervisor of the EKG Department of the Medical College of Virginia and assisted in establishing the Virginia Heart Institute in Richmond, Virginia. She retired from the McGuire VA Medical Center with 37 years of nursing. Edith was a long time member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Prince Hall affiliation. In 2015, Mrs. Brown moved to Northern Virginia where she made many new friends who enjoyed listening to her tell them about all of her experiences at Virginia State College and in her medical career. Preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her son, Mack Curley, she leaves to cherish her memory, her loving daughter and caregiver, Lillian A. Curley of Alexandria, Virginia; her two sisters-in-law, Elisha Ruth Phillips of Cincinnati, Ohio and Mildred Curley McGriff of Fort Washington, Maryland; a god daughter, Madelynn Churchill of Centerville, Virginia and a host of other relatives, friends and neighbors like family, Rev. Cassandra and Malachi Burton and Cindy Courville for their never-ending love and assistance. Special thanks to her doctors and caregivers, Nikkie, Leah, Selam, and Shay for all of their love and caring during Mrs. Brown's illness. A public viewing will be held Friday, October 15, 2021 from 12pm - 6pm at Tucker & Fisher Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 Halifax St., Petersburg, VA. A Celebration of Life & Entombment will be held Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 12pm at Westhampton Memorial & Cremation Park, 10000 Patterson Ave., Richmond, VA.
