Mrs. Hattie Rebecca Hatchett

Hattie Rebecca Hatchett was born December 11, 1935 to Virear and Eugene Alston in Littleton, North Carolina. She was educated in Littleton and attended Mc Iver high school in Halifax county. Hattie married James Alston on December 3, 1951. She then moved to Newport News, Virginia in 1953. She was the proud mother of six, three girls and three boys (Her ½ dozen). Mr. James passed in 1971. Hattie later married James A. Hatchett on July 28, 1973. Hattie was employed at the Chicken Box, Jones Café, Rose's, Rice's Nachmans and the Newport News School system. She was also a Special Needs Assistant on several school buses. She then retired from Rice's Nachmans and from the Newport News School System. A member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church, where she served on the Deaconess Board and the CD Chorus. She became a Charter member of the Bethany Baptist Church (Bethany Fellowship) where she severed also as Church Treasurer and again was on the Deaconess Board. Mrs. Hattie also a supportive of Mission Outreach Activities and was a faithful member until her health failed her. Hattie was preceded in death by her parents, Virear and Eugene Alston; and three children James Lyle Alston, Jerotha Diane Alston and George Andre Alston; two grandson's Brian BJ Scott and Christopher J. Alston. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Evelyn E. Alston of Hampton, VA and Barbara A. Alston of Newport News, VA. One son Simon (Sam) Vernon Alston of Newport News, VA. One brother George N. Alston of Hampton, VA and a host of Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren and Great-Great Grandchildren, and relatives and many friends
