"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." Matthew 11:28-30. Mr. Henry Lee Mason, Sr., affectionately known as "Snake", 70, transitioned peacefully at Bon Secours - Southside Medical Center, Petersburg, Virginia on Friday, April 30, 2021. Henry was born November 23, 1950 in Petersburg, Virginia to the late Jerome and Valnora Mason. He attended Petersburg Public Schools, Petersburg, VA and resided in Petersburg for most of his life. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at an early age. Henry was employed with Brown Brothers Roofing for several years and retired from the City of Peterburg after many years of service. He loved football and was a die-hard Washington Football Team fan. He was loved by many and those that really knew him will attest that he lived his life to the fullest and he didn't let any grass grow under his feet. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Mason; four sisters, Mary Rawlings, Madaline Mason, Ernell Crittendon and Crystal Mason. Henry leaves to cherish his memory: two sons, Henry Lee Mason, Jr. (Teresa) of Chesterfield, VA and Keyon L. Mason (Lakiesha) of Hopewell, VA; three sisters, Lucille Coleman (Gerald) of Chesterfield, VA, Martha Burton (Garland) of Prince George, VA and Vanessa Mason (Lorenzo) of Courtland, VA; four grandchildren, Keyera Mason of Chester,VA, Breona Mason of Petersburg, VA, Keyona Mason and Keyasia Mason both of Hopewell, VA; one great-grandson, Pierre Shands III of Chester, VA; devoted friend, James Reeds of Petersburg, VA; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Tucker & Fisher Celebration of Life Chapel, 415 Halifax St., Petersburg, VA with Rev. Dr. Antonio A. Tucker, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Minnis Memorial Park, South Chesterfield, VA. The service will be live streamed. Public viewing will be Friday, May 7, 2021 from 10:00 A.M. - 8:00 P.M. A facial covering along with social distancing will be required while attending all services and viewings.
