Mrs. Jane Gilmore Redman Johnson

On December 27, 2020 God in His infinite wisdom called our beloved Jane Ardena Gilmore Redman Johnson, who was affectionately known to her children as "Mom and Mommy" and to her grandchildren as "Granny." Jane was born on November 5, 1931 to her loving parents, the late Mervin and Freda Gilmore. She was a native of Petersburg, West Virginia, where she attended Petersburg Public Schools. In later years, she received her cosmetology license as well as a certificate in Microbiotic Cooking to assist cancer patients. Jane was a faithful servant to God and a member of Zion Apostolic Christian Memorial Temple in Petersburg, Virginia. The late Bishop Samuel Wright, Sr. was her pastor. Jane served on various committees and ministries which included the Pastor's Aide Ministry, Usher Ministry, Senior Choir and Women's Choir (she wrote solo songs to sing in the choir and for the choirs to sing) and Christian Education where she also wrote Christmas plays, skits and poetry. Lady Jane Redman Johnson as she was known at Zion Apostolic Christian Memorial Temple, had a heart full of love and compassion for helping anyone in need. She served and attended Zion faithfully until her health began to decline. Along with her parents, Jane was preceded in death by four sisters, Viola Redman (James) of Petersburg, WV, Arbrela Crites (Lester) of Petersburg, WV, Hosanna Barnes (Robert) of Rochester, NY and Doris Walker (Lewis) of Winchester, VA and one brother, Henry Carlyle Gilmore of Petersburg, WV. Jane leaves to cherish her memory five children, Charles Gilmore, Sr. (Irene) of Phoenix, AZ, Sharon Crockett (Raymond) of Petersburg, VA, Joyce Riley (Alvin) of Roanoke, VA, Andrew Redman (Barbara) of Norfolk, VA and Mark Redman (Kimberly) of Petersburg, WV; one sister, Nellie Redman of Fisher, WV; twelve grandchildren, Gary Gilmore, Patricia Gilmore, Andrea Jackson, Charles Gilmore Jr., Shan Gilmore, Pamela McElroy, Andre Redman, Andrea Howell, Cynthia Jernigan, Andrew Redman Jr., Travis Redman, Samirah White, and three devoted grandchildren, Nannette Taylor, Kymberly Scott and Kya Taylor; twenty-five great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; along with a host of other relatives and friends, among them, Lillie Wilson, Marcella Macklin and Kathleen Ampy. A Graveside Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Maple Hill Cemetery, Petersburg, West Virginia.
