Mrs. Jessie Mae People

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain. Jessie People the daughter of Scott and Carrie Johnson was born in Anderson, SC. She received her Elementary and Secondary Education in the Public Schools of Greensboro, NC. She received her degree in cosmetology from Dudley Beauty College and later a master. Mrs. People was an active member of the Beauticians of Virginia organization. A life long member of Shalom, were she served faithfully for many years in various church roles such as Trustee board member ,Gleanors, youth director, Debutantant Singers ,Vacation bible school and Sunday school teacher, she was a dedicated active member throughout her last years . Mrs. Peoples last affiliation was a deaconess. She loved her church to the fullness and had plans on returning in July for the Church Reunion. She departed this life on February 26, 2009 at 11:00 p.m. She leaves to mourn her departure, a daughter Carrie Outlaw of Greenwood, MS; her niece and nephew, Dr. Ruth Faye Davis and Dr. Oliver J. Davis Sr. of Huntsville, AL; her grandchildren: Sharon West of Birmingham, AL, Janice Outlaw of Greenwood, MS; her great grandchildren: Latoye Sullivan-Zinn ( Eric) of Holly Springs, MS; Jamal, Kenneth, and Kendra Williams of Birmingham, AL; her one great-great grandson Eric Zinn Jr. of Holly Springs, MS; her nieces and nephews Mrs. June Smith of Flint, MI; her adopted neice and nephew, Mrs. Katherine Newell of Syracuse, NY; Dr. & Mrs. Darrell and Takeela Smith of Six Lakes, MI; Mr. and Mrs. Christopher and Pamela Brown of Buffalo, NY; Mr. and Mrs. Carvil and Rose Phillips of Atlanta GA; Mr.and Mrs. Bruce and Olivia Turner of Tampa, FL and family; Oliver Davis Jr. of South Bend, IN( 6th District Council Member); and Mr. Eric Smith of Detroit MI; her great grand nieces and nephews: Crystal Smith, Vuarnet Smith, D’Argio Smith, Eva Smith, Britney Smith, Branisha Smith, Constance Phillips, Roscille Phillips, Alexandria Phillips, Tre Smtih, Lecea Wilson, Starr Davis and a host of other relatives, friends, neighbors and church members. The funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at Shalom Baptist Church 1111 24th St. NN, VA, Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Viewing will be held from 12 noon until 6:00 pm on Friday, March 6, 2009 at the funeral home and two hours prior at the church.
