Deacon Kenneth Dean Mays, 62, of Petersburg, VA, departed this life on Monday, July 27, 2020 at his residence. Kenneth was born March 30, 1958 to the late Bertha Francis May and Eddie Mays. Along with his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by five brothers, Elwood Mays, James Mays, Eugene Mays, Curtis Mays and Jerry Mays; two sisters, Edna Wiggins and Linda Henderson; two aunts, Thelma Stewart and Mary Barksdale and one uncle, Paul Stewart. Kenneth was baptized at an early age and was raised in the church. He knew God, loved God, and served God wholeheartedly and displayed it in the life that he lived. He was a true praiser and didn't mind dancing like David danced before the Lord. He served faithfully as a Deacon, armorbearer, prayer warrior and was faithful to his calling until his health began to decline. Even with his declining health, he knew where his strength came from. He was the founder of Helping Hands Ministry, under the leadership of Bishop Lucy Smith with Winning Souls for Christ, where he implemented food and clothing for the community from 1997-2006. He served at the Harrison Street Adult Home Men Mentoring Program from 1996-2000. Kenneth was last employed at McDonalds. Kenneth is survived by three sisters, Brenda Rives, Elaine Mays and Minnie Cole (Larry) all of Petersburg, VA; three brothers, Robert Mays (Phyllis) of Bellwood, IL, Edward Mays and Nelson Mays all of Petersburg, VA; longtime companion and friend, Mausella M. Mays, a devoted step-son, Larry Smith; two uncles, Johnny Stewart and Fred Stewart; a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. A Homegoing Celebration of Life will he held 2:00 P.M., Monday, August 3, 2020 at Tucker & Fisher Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 Halifax St., Petersburg, VA. Bishop Darren L. Gay, Sr., Pastor of Higher Way Ministries, Petersburg, VA will officiate. Interment will follow at Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, VA. Public viewing will be Sunday, August 2, 2020 from 12:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M. Please join us in comforting the Mays Family by uplifting them with your prayers.
