Elder Learne Winford Raines, Sr., of Newport News, Virginia, transitioned into the gates of Heaven on Saturday, October 30, 2021. Learne was born on February 15,1949 to the late Elizabeth Jones Raines and Wilson "Hat Man" Raines. Learne was preceded in death by his stepmother, Carrie Raines (who raised him after the passing of his mother at an early age); his loving and devoted wife of 44 years, Mary Megdaline Raines; two son's, Learne "Man" Raines, Jr., and Charles "Timmy" Malone; three brothers, Frank Raines(Patricia), Jack Raines(Jannie) and Willie Jones(Linda-Deceased); stepsister, Georgia Mae Raines and stepbrother, Mack Taylor. Learne accepted Christ at an early age with his wife under the leadership of Bishop Willie L. Balthrop, Sr., of the Greater Bethesda Bibleway Church, Petersburg, VA. Years later, Learne branched out on his own fellowshiping with St. Jude International Bibleway Church in Wakefield, VA. Learne also attended Living Water Bible Way under the leadership of Bishop Jackson in Newport News. VA. Learne droved tractor trailer trucks hauling logs for many years. After retiring in 2010 from Pinecrest Timber in Waverly VA, Learne enjoyed working around his yard, fixing things around the home, sitting on his front porch with his Baby Cakes(Meg), visiting and talking to family and friends on the phone. Learne was known for his great personality, joy, big laughs and big heart. Learne also enjoyed reading the Bible, giving all family members Bible verses to memorize and quote. He was a man big on GOD, having a circled family prayer each and every night (even if you were asleep, he would wake you up). Learne took care of his ill wife until her passing in 2016. After her death, Learne relocated to Statesville, NC for a short period and later back to Newport News VA, where he resided with his granddaughter, who took care of him until he transitioned to Heaven. Learne leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted biological brother, James "Wild Bill" Jones (Louveina-Deceased); children, Brenda Malone, Robert "Junnie" Malone, and Pamela "MsB" Malone (Richard); eleven grandchildren, Chaquita Raines, D'Shondre Raines, Terronda Finch, Dajanique Raines, Brennon Malone (Nazi), Jolisa Malone (Darren), Regina Malone, Ronnie Malone, Diamanté Malone (Samantha), Chanie Rawlings, and Malaika Lawerance (in his eyes they were all devoted in a special way); twenty-four great grandchildren; two devoted and carried a very special place in his heart Ke'Shaun "PA" Malone and JaShayla "Bo Peep" Malone; four step-sisters, Evelyn Lewis, Darlene Brown, Helen Brown, and Cheryl Chamblis; three step-brothers, Jonny Taylor, Andrew Taylor, and Ernest Taylor; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Raines and Jannie Raines; one brother-in-law, James "Baby Bro" Malone; along with a host of nieces and nephews, among them devoted, Catherine and Consuella Jones, great nieces and nephews and numerous friends. Special thanks to DaVita Dialysis, Jenn Care Senior Medical Center, Kindred Hospice & Jolisa Malone of Newport News, VA. Thank you for your dedication and providing great care for Learne. A Celebration of Life will be held 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at Tucker & Fisher Celebration of Life Chapel, 415 Halifax St., Petersburg, VA. Interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Rd., Petersburg, VA. Public viewing will be held on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 from 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM.
