February 10, 1932 - March 5, 2021
Mr. Roosevelt N. Lewis, affectionally known as "Roach" of 11510 River Road, Chesterfield, Virginia, departed this life on Friday, March 5, 2021. He was born on February 10, 1932 to his late parents, Benjamin Thomas Lewis Sr., and Goldie Mason Lewis Gilliam Parham. At an early age, Roosevelt became a member of Union Branch Baptist Church, Chesterfield, Virginia. Roosevelt served for many years as a trustee of Union Branch Baptist Church until his health failed him. He was a faithful member of the Gospel Male Chorus, Walter D. Brown Male Choir and Men's Ministry of Union Branch Baptist Church. Roosevelt was educated in Chesterfield County Public School System, Chesterfield, Virginia. He also attended John Tyler Community College and became a Certified Nuclear Welder employed with Honeywell (formally known as Allied Chemical) of Hopewell, Virginia. After over 30 years of service, Roosevelt retired and later became the community "go to" person to fix and repair whatever was broken. On August 23, 1953, Roosevelt married the love of his life, the late Margene Moore Lewis and together they celebrated sixty-one years of marriage. They loved to entertain family, friends, and associates during various occasions. They enjoyed many years of traveling, vacationing, and cruising with family and friends, especially with their "cut buddies." They enjoyed impromptu get-togethers at their home on weekends and especially after Sunday service. Roosevelt was also a former member of Club 533 of Richmond Virginia. He really enjoyed all that the club offered and was generous when sharing his membership amenities with friends. For all who enjoyed the company of Roosevelt and Margene, you dare not drive by their home and not stop. On August 23, 2008 they renewed their marriage vows celebrating 55 years of Marriage. Their anniversary was truly a Grand Celebration. In addition to his parents, Roosevelt was preceded in death by his loving wife, Margene Lewis; sister, Irene Lightning; brothers, Ben T. Lewis, Jr., and James L. Lewis; brother-in-law, Lloyd Lightning; sister-in-law, Lorraine Henderson Moore; nieces, Cherri Lewis, Denise, Sherry Lightning and Catherine Moore; nephew, Lloyd Lightning, Jr., step-fathers, Howard W. Gilliam-Robinson and Lester R. Gilliam "like a brother" (Pamela); goddaughter, Titina Coleman and her children, Dominque McDaniel (Dexter) and Destiny Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and devoted friends.
