Mrs. Towando Price-Tonkins

June 22, 1964 - April 28, 2022

Mrs. Towando M. Price-Tonkins, daughter of Antinie "Peter" Sumler, Jr. and the late Evelyn T. Sumler was born June 22, 1964 in Suffolk, VA. She entered her eternal rest on Thursday, April 28, 2022. She was preceded in death by her mother, Evelyn T. Sumler; sister, Sabrina Drake; uncle, Glen Turner and nephew, Montrail Stringfield. Towando graduated from Sussex Central High School with the Class of 1982. She worked at the Tavern in Waverly, VA for many years until she found her love for the peanut production. She then rendered her services to Plantation Peanuts and Virginia Diner in Wakefield, VA. She was a hard working mother and grandmother that loved to play Bingo. She enjoyed free time with family and friends. Towando leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, Kenneth Tonkins; daughter, LaShana Price and son, Michael A. Price, Jr. (Pamela) both of Wakefield, VA; three godchildren, Travis Price (Lisa) of Suffolk, VA, Clifton Taylor, Jr. and Deneisha Taylor both of Spring Lake, NC. Towando had nine grandchildren, Kemon Price, Emani Price, Ziyanne Price, Layla Brooks, Londynn Price, Leah Price, Cy'Mir Evans, Michael Price, III and Mathew Price. She also leaves her father, Antinie "Peter" Sumler, Jr. of Wakefield, VA; one sister, Regina Drew of Wakefield, VA; three brothers, Charles Sumler of Wakefield, VA, Antinie "Ant" Sumler of Courtland, VA, and Stephen Sumler of Virginia Beach, VA; four sisters-in-law, one devoted, Angela Price; three brothers-in-law, seven uncles, one devoted, William "Dwight" Stewart; three aunts, two devoted, Deloise "Tincy" Taylor and Ada Mae Sumler; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Towando made friends everywhere she went because of her sassiness but she had a few that stuck by her side throughout the years to include her devoted friends the late, Mary Rose Brown, Stephanie Rose, Laura Tonkins, Darlen King, Tammy Parsley and devoted cousin, Cassandra Sumler. A special thanks to Crater Community Hospice Care, especially Ms. Paige and Ms. Tracy, Wanda Tonkins and Janet Stith. A Celebration of Life will be held 1:00 PM., Thursday, May 5, 2022 at the Urquhart Family Cemetery, Wakefield, VA, Bishop Rodney White, eulogist. Public viewing will be Wednesday, May 4, 2022 from 2:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
