November 13, 1946 - December 10, 2021
Wayne "Randy" Randolph Hill, 75, of Petersburg, VA, was serenely accepted by the Lord's angels Friday evening, December 10, 2021. He passed away peacefully in his home. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Born November 13, 1946, he was the oldest of two children to the late Mr. James Alfred Hill and late Mrs. Arlene Virginia Trotter Hill. Mr. Hill was a native of Petersburg, VA and attended Petersburg Public Schools, graduating from Peabody High School in the February Class of 1965. As a youth, Mr. Hill attended Sunday School at Good Shepherd Baptist Church on Virginia Avenue, First Baptist Church on Harrison Street, and First Baptist Church Birdsville. A Baptist during his early years, he would later join the Holiness Faith, and faithfully attended services as an adult. Right out of high school, Mr. Hill joined the Air Force, where he served proudly on active duty for three years, before transferring to the Air Force reserves, from 1969 to 1971. He served as an Airman 1st Class and his duty assignment was the 81st Supply Square, where he fueled planes. He was honorably discharged in 1971, for medical reasons. While a reservist, in 1969, Mr. Hill began his career with Allied Signal (now Honeywell), retiring in 2005, after 36 years of employment. While he was very proud of his career and the places it had taken him, his greatest joy and accomplishment was being a father. Mr. Hill was the proud father of four: Wayne Ricardo Hill, the late Donna Ruth Arlene Hill-Birdsong, Joshua Nathan Hawkins-Hill, and Felicia Mary-Arlene Hill. He prided himself on doing the best he could to set the example of hard work and responsibility, not only for his children, but also for his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, niece, and younger cousins. In his free time, he liked doing community projects, as a member of The Benedict Civic Club and The Peabody High School National Alumni Association. He enjoyed completing D.I.Y. projects with his father in earlier years. He also loved fishing and being on the water, pestering his younger sister, "Cissy", almost daily, listening to Gospel music, especially Pastor John P. Kee, eating out with his family, having comical rants about the Dallas Cowboys vs. Washington Redskins (now The Washington Football Team) games with his youngest son, and hosting jam sessions in the car with his youngest daughter. He was an avid traveler, often with BT Travels, and took a memorable family cruise to Mexico in 2009. Occasionally, he enjoyed going out to parties with friends. It is well known that he loved watching certain television shows and that he rarely missed "his stories", The Bold and The Beautiful, Guiding Light, and As the World Turns. He also really enjoyed old cowboy movies. Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his loving parents, Mr. and Mrs. James A. Hill; first wife, Mrs. Hazel Hill; daughter, Mrs. Donna R. A. Hill-Birdsong; great-aunt, Miss Rosa E. Dunn; aunt, Mrs. Madelyn D. Richardson; uncle, Mr. Luther H. Trotter, Jr.; cousin and football partner, Mr. Milton "Teddy" Richardson, Sr.; and cousins, Mr. Donald Richardson and Ms. Renee "Bubbles" Richardson. Hill of Petersburg; ten loving grandchildren, LaShea and Larry Hill of Richmond, Jeremiah, Josiah, Jacob, and Delilah Hill of Chesterfield, Tyonna Lewis of Prince George, Miles Haskins of King George, and Rayden and Eris Hill of Pensacola, FL; two great-grandchildren, Aaron and Alex Ayala of Richmond; devoted sister, Mrs. Gladys H. Scott (Hugh, Sr.) of Lansing, MI; nephews, Mr. Hugh M. Scott, Jr. of Los Angeles, CA and Mr. Benjamin J. Scott of Lansing, MI; niece, Dr. Jamil B.
