On Saturday, October 2, 2021, William Felix Hiltner, Sr., 79, affectionately known as Bill or P.H., peacefully entered enteral rest at his residence amongst his loving family in Petersburg, Virginia. He was born on August 8, 1942, in Camden, New Jersey, to the late Irvin and Bertha (Jeffries) Hiltner. He was raised by Bertha and James MacEwen. Bill attended public school in Camden, New Jersey, where he later joined the United States Marine Corp. After settling back into a civilian life, he met and married the love of his life and true best friend, Frances Emma (Smith) Hiltner. To this union, they were blessed with four children, Teresa "Terri" Gibbs of Indiana, Indianapolis, Deborah "Debbi" Hiltner, Michael "Mike" Hiltner and William "Billy" Hiltner, Jr. of Petersburg, Virginia. For over 20 years, Bill owned Perma Shine, Inc., which allowed him to travel throughout the United States selling car detailing equipment. He was later employed at Dominion Nissan, until retirement in 2001. In 2015, he dedicated his life to Christ at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Petersburg, Virginia. Bill had an awesome personality and sense of humor. He loved sharing stories from his travels and his time in Camden. He was always the life of the party from dancing to telling jokes. No matter where you were you could hear the distinct sound of infectious laughter and would anxiously await an opportunity to see his smile. The acts of kindness and compassion he showed others exemplified his love for his family. His actions on the daily basis epitomized unconditional love. He enjoyed participating in a variety of social activities and clubs such as Clementon Park Ball Room, SO Jersey Dance Club, Pine Lake Swimming Club, Antique Car Shows and Meals on Wheels, just to name a few. Bill spent most of his time playing poker, going to the casino, golfing, restoring his '66 Mustang, watching TV, spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchild, spending quality time with family, shopping, and, his all-time favorite, and going to Walmart at 3:00 p.m. daily for a fresh loaf of bread. Along with his parents, (Irvin and Bertha) Hiltner/ MacEwen and step-father (James) MacEwen, Bill was preceded by his youngest brother, David MacEwen; Uncle, George Jeffries, Jr., Aunt(s), Rachel Taylor, Mittie Tanner, Addie Mark's, and Louise Lewis; parents-in-law, Benjamin and Agnes Smith; close friends, Robert Hines and Ronnie Newton. Left to cherish his memories are his devoted wife of 58 years, Frances Smith Hiltner; two daughters: Terri and Debbi; two sons: Mike (Kim) and Billy (Quiona); four grandchildren: Timmy Gibbs, Jonathan "Chase" (Brooke) Brinson, Hannah Hiltner, and Emilee Hiltner; one great-grandchild: Lincoln Dean Brinson; two sisters: Brenda (Bob) Dochterman and Barbara (Bill) Roletter; three brothers: Jimmy (Lorraine) MacEwen, Ken Hiltner, and Harry Hiltner; nieces and nephews: Wendy (Steve) Bosworth , Sandy (Ken) Martilik, Robbie (Lynn) Dochterman, Jaime MacEwen , Jason MacEwen , Amy Kril, and Chuck Kril; host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends: Al Payne and Tom Jeter. Bill will be greatly missed and his legacy will live forever throughout his family. Family Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 6, 2021 from 4pm-6pm at Tucker & Fisher Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 Halifax St., Petersburg, VA. A Celebration of Life will be held 11am, Thursday, October 7, 2021 at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia, Amelia, VA.
