Mrs. Daisy J. Sellers

Early Saturday morning July 28, 2018 Daisy transitioned from her earthly home to the heavenly abode that has been prepared for her. She was the last of ten children born to Daisy and James Bowman on March 8, 1931, in Wilson, NC, where she lived until the family moved to Wilmington, NC. Daisy was brought up in a God-fearing home where she was taught that Jesus Christ was first in their lives. Daisy was a self-taught Cosmetologist a skill that was passed on to one of her nieces, Shirley, “Shellie Ann” as Daisy called her. Daisy’s beauty, style and heart always kept her on the top as the leading lady. She was the epitome of a “classy lady.” Daisy exemplified such warmth, grace and godly love towards everyone she met. In her early years, Daisy gave birth to a beautiful, bubbling baby girl named “Tonya Jean.” She brought much joy to her and the family for she was the love of her life. Daisy was gifted and talented and anointed to sing God’s song of praise. She and her sisters lifted up their voices in song throughout NC and neighboring areas to the glory of God. Daisy was indeed faithful to the cause of Christ. She was saved, sanctified, and Holy Ghost filled. She dedicated her life entirely to the service of God. Daisy fell for a handsome young man named Irvin McKoy, known as Jr. They married on December 13, 1954 and relocated to Newport News, VA to begin their life together. For 28 years, Daisy and Irvin were the owners of a prominent and thriving Seafood Market in Newport News and Hampton, VA. Daisy and Irvin became members of Mt. Calvary F.B.H. Church in Newport News, VA. She worked diligently and untiringly as the church administrator. She was always found working in their business and the Lord’s house. On January 12, 1987, death came suddenly to Daisy’s husband, Irvin. In 1995 Daisy married Rev. Willie J. Sellers in Greenville, SC. Daisy worked faithfully by the side of her husband performing God’s work. June 25, 2000, Daisy was ordained an Elder at Mt. Calvary United Fellowship Outreach Church. She was also a member of the senior choir and staunch prayer warrior. Daisy was loved by family and many others. She was known as “Upsy” by immediate family. She stood by her family providing emotional support and advice to all. She was a special gift to each of us. Those who preceded her in death are her parents James and Daisy Bowman, first husband Irvin, nine siblings; Joseph, Margaret, Helen, John, Katie Jane, Mary Albertha, Lila, Queen Esther & Willie. Daisy leaves to cherish her memories: her husband Bishop Willie J. Sellers; daughter Tonya Jean Jones; Stepsons Robert (Mazie), and Jerome (Louise) Sellers; granddaughter Lori Miller (George); grandson Kenneth A. Brown (Joanna); five great-grandchildren, Devin, Ethan, Miyani Brown, Collin and Christopher Miller; nieces Annie Thelma Hawes, Deloise Cross (St. George), Lottie Artis (Edward), Shirley Griffin (Robert), Retha Brown, and nephew James “Bo Peep” Bowman also a host of devoted friends and church members.
