Mr. Delgado Mandel LaDerrick Cherry

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Delgado (Known to many as DL), Our loving husband and devoted father and friend to all whose lives he touched. On November 23,2023 due to cancer. Just like he dealt with all experiences in life Delgado managed his illness with strength and love and wanted to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible. On his final day he was surrounded by his wife and his children. God knew best to call Delgado home to be our Guardian angel. He was 51 years young. He was born April 1, 1972, in Newport News Va, son of the late James Edward Dancy Sr. and Zaneta Cherry Jimmison. During his childhood Delgado developed a love for football. He scored 7 touchdowns in one game and received many trophies and MVP awards. He also had a passion for music and dance. He was a part of several dance and singing groups. (So Suave, Boys Will Be Boys, Outsiders For Life) and perform at the Appollo. He also performed at Elizabeth City State University. In 2003 he wrote and produced his "Lost Souls" album affectionally know as Young Shorts, along with many videos. He was a joy to everyone he came in touch with. As he grew older, he developed a love for cooking. He dedicated over 24 years in this field, one including on Chatham Navy Weapon Station for 8 years. On August 17. 2007, He married the love of his life and to this Union he had 7 beautiful children who was his life's crowing glory. He loved his family and the Lord. Delgado was full of life, with a big heart and had an extraordinary love for his family. He preceded in death by his father, his grandparents Shirley M. Cherry and Cora Dancy and Earnest L. Dancy, and 4 uncles, Marcellus L. Cherry, James E. Cherry, Edward Cherry 3rd, all of Newport News Virginia. Alton of North Carolina and Aunt Sheila and Shirley Cherry of Newport News Virginia . Delgado leaves to cherish his memories : of his beloved wife of 16 years , Shawneaquel Cherry. His five sons , Arreon ,Ty'Quan, Keylen, Delgado Jr., and Micah and his 2 daughters; Daishanique and Niyonna. His mother Zaneta Cherry Jimmerson(Eric deceased), Mother in law Jacquelyn Randall (Sterling); His 2 Sisters; Angela Davis and Jackie Greene of Rocky Mount N.C.; 4 Brothers, A'Keem Cherry of Newport News, Stephen Bryant of Stockbridge, Georgia ; James Dancy, Jr. of Baltimore, Maryland; Deontrell Salter(Champale) of Springfield MO; 5 Uncles, Alonzo Cherry (Margie) of Newport News VA; Carl Cherry of Newport News Va.; Calvin Cherry of Boston, MA.; Larry Dancy of Battleboro, NC.; Ernest Dancy Jr. of Tarboro, NC; Aunts, Carolyn Dove(Melvin) of Raleigh, NC; Earnestine Pittman of Raleigh, NC; Peggy Lewis of Battleboro, NC;
