Mr. Lee Marshall Terry, Sr.

Lee Marshall Terry departed this life on Saturday, September 24, 2022 while surrounded by his family. He was born December 12, 1932, to the late Charlie and Alease Terry in Chatham, VA. He was educated in the Chatham Public School system in Chatham, VE. He moved to Newport News, VA where he obtained employment with what was known as Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company. Knowing that his passion was to become a brick mason, his employment with the Shipyard was only for a period of one year. He later obtained employment within Enblock White for 45 years. He worked long but rarely complained because he finally got the job doing what he loved most which was laying bricks. He worked hard for 45 years before he retired because of his health. Even though he retired he found another love and passion …… yard work. Yes, you could find him sometimes several times a week working outside in his yard; cutting grass or trimming his hedges even in the midst of battling one health problem after another. He never gave up. You could count on him doing things for many other people, especially for his late close friend Georgia M. Smith, who he took faithfully to the grocery store every week. On Saturdays and Sundays, you could easily find him sitting in front of his TV all day enjoying his favorite Cowboy/Western shows. Even though he never cast a fishing rod he would go down to Peterson's Yacht Basin and watch others catch fish or just sit and watch the water. He also had a love for getting together with family and friends where you knew he was going to throw out jokes that would make you laugh and sometimes cry at some of the things he would say. He loved to eat and never complained about the food on the table but to him; if you didn't have some type of dessert, you had not eaten your complete meal. He loved his sweets. Oh yes, he got great joy out of eating and making people happy. Others thought it was funny back in the day when he wore a part on each side of his head but today we see his style being used by many. He gave his life to Christ in 1999 and later joined Greater Gray's Temple in Hampton, VA, and was ordained as a deacon and served as best he could until his health continued to decline. He was predeceased by: his parents, Charlie and Alease Terry; siblings, Beatrice Posten, Rufus Terry, David Terry, and Raymond Terry; 2 sons, Gary Terry and Wayne Terry; and a stepson, Frederick Jacobs. He leaves to cherish his precious memories: Brother, John Terry of Hampton, VA; sister, Verelene Smith of Maryland; a faithful devoted loving, and kind friend Minnie Lee Jacobs; 4 daughters, Trudy Holder, GA., Brenda (Stan) of Danville, VA., Kim and Charlene Terry of Hampton, VA., 3 sons, Albert and Regges of Hampton, VA., Marshall (Sherelle) of Hampton, VA., 20 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many devoted friends and neighbors.
