Mr. Linwood Darnell Hill, Sr.

Mr. Linwood Darnell Hill, Sr., affectionately known as "Pop", 71, of Petersburg, Virginia, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2022 at his residence. Linwood was born August 27, 1950 in Petersburg, VA. Linwood attended Prince George County Public School, Prince George, VA and graduated from Prince George High School with the Class of 1968. He then went on to earn a degree from John Tyler Community College, Chester, VA. From 1968 - 1985 he worked at Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company and then he went to work as a Resolution Specialist for the Defense General Supply Center for 37 years. Linwood enjoyed watching basketball and football. In his early years, he played baseball for the Prince George Mets where he was an awesome baseball player, especially as a pitcher. Linwood was a family man. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his son and daughter, along with the grandkids hanging out at their houses. Linwood was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Hill, Sr. and Carrie Hill. He is survived by his daughter, Veronica Hill Reed and son, Linwood Hill, Jr. (Veronica) both of Prince George, VA; four siblings, Calvin Hill, Sr. (Betty) of Macon, GA, Walter Hill, Jr. (Dawn), Karen Wall and Julie Perry all of Prince George, VA; three grandchildren that he loved dearly, James Reed, Jr., Joshua Reed and Jonathan Reed all of Prince George, VA; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends to include: Robert Truly, Robert Pegram, Dorothy Thomas (Bellwood Supervisor) and his Bellwood family and the Park Avenue Apartment Complex where he was known as, "Pops". A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, September 2, 2022 at the Tucker & Fisher Celebration of Life Chapel, 415 Halifax St., Petersburg, VA with the Rev. Dr. George W. C. Lyons, Pastor of Gillfield Baptist Church, Petersburg, VA officiating. Burial will follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park, Petersburg, VA. The service will be live streamed. Public viewing and visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, September 1, 2022 from 10:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M.
